My current research interests include the application of femtosecond lasers to life sciences along two main topics: DNA-protein and protein-protein cross-link in living cell and UV functionalization of gold surface for immunosensing. In particular,we are developing a QCM based biosensors that exploits the unique features of the so-called Photonic Immobilization Technique (PIT) to increase the sensisitivity of QCMs by more than one order of magnitude for light molecules. Such a device inherently lends itself to detecting analytes in water distribution networks in virtue of its easiness to use, cost effectiveness and robustness.
